We will learn the ways of oil tanning salmon skin leather to make a beautiful textile that can be used for anything a modern textile is used for. Fish leather is a near forgotten ancestral skill used in China, Siberia, Norway, Sweden, Alaska and by indigenous people down the Pacific Coast. This unique and strong textile was used for clothing, footwear, drums and art. We will also be guided by the deeper teachings of salmon and may consider questions such as “What does home mean to you” and “What does it mean to come home”? Materials fee: $10 (includes fish skins, tanning supplies and use of all tools).
