Suna (Sunkosi Maya Maria) is a Vancouver-based Indigenous visual and performance artist of mixed descent (Chippewyan, Nepalese, Ukrainian and German). She studied painting and sculpture before exploring the world of clown performance and everything that has led to. Her visual art practice began with an examination of cultural identity and expanded into an exploration of the human spirit’s inherent fluidity, realized through the many masks of her own character. Her goal in performance is to remind the audience of their raw humanity and the validity of emotions.
